Cuckoo's Nest #1
The character that seems to be most like a hero is the narrator, Chief Bromden. It kind of follows the lead on Gatsby where the narrator is the hero. In both books, the narrator tells the story the way it is, assumed to be in a honest way. Even though he doesn't have straight-forward hero traits, if I had to pick a character so far, if would be Chief Bromden.
Randle McMurphy is the anti-hero so far in Cuckoo's nest. He does things that would be considered morally wrong, but he is doing them for a right reason. He also does wrong things in order to disrupt the Nurse, who is the villain, so it is accepted by the people.
Nurse Ratched is the villain. She does things that makes her seem nice to the patients, but she is secretly doing this in order to gain power and control over the people. Her morals go against what the reader's expected morals would be, so she is a villain.
